Challengers
Dear DSL Families,
We are delighted to announce the launch of a pilot program designed specifically to welcome and support children aged 5-17 with special needs in our community. The Challengers Program is a unique opportunity for children to experience the joy of soccer in a fun, supportive, and inclusive environment tailored.
The Challengers Program will run for the next three weeks, from November 9th to November 23rd, with sessions held on Saturday mornings at Pier 26 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. This pilot phase will allow us to gather valuable feedback as we prepare to launch a full, formal program next season.
Program Details:
- One-on-One: Each player will be paired with a high school volunteer from DSL, who will work 1:1 with them to provide guidance and encouragement.
- Format: The program is structured to have a warm-up session followed by a modified drill after which we break up into teams for a fun, volunteer/player scrimmage, allowing each child to participate in a way that feels comfortable.
- Focus on Fun and Social Connections: Our main goal is to create a positive experience where children can get some exercise, learn soccer fundamentals, build confidence, and make friends
- Age: 5 – 17
- Max # of players (Pilot): 12 on any given Saturday
- Date and Time: November 9th, 16th, 23rd 10:30-11:30am
- Location: Pier 26
- Cost: Free
We believe the Challengers Program will strengthen our community and foster an environment where all children feel welcome and valued.
If you have any questions or would like more information about the program, please feel free to reach out to us at challengers@downtownsoccernyc.org.
We look forward to your support and to seeing the positive impact this program will have on our community.
